Ingredients:
- 2 cups basmati rice, washed and soaked for 30 minutes
- 1 pound boneless chicken, cut into small pieces
- 2 onions, sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger paste
- 1 tablespoon garlic paste
- 2-3 green chillies, chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro leaves
- 1/4 cup fried onions (optional)
Instructions:
Heat the oil in a large pan and fry the onions until golden brown. Remove half the onions and keep them aside for later.
Add the chicken to the pan and cook until browned.
Add the ginger paste, garlic paste, green chillies, cumin seeds, coriander powder, garam masala powder, and turmeric powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
Add the tomatoes and cook until they are soft and mushy.
Add the yogurt and salt to taste. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Add the soaked rice and mix well.
Add the water and stir gently. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pan with a lid.
Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the water has been absorbed.
Turn off the heat and let the biryani sit covered for 5-10 minutes.
Fluff the rice with a fork and transfer the biryani to a serving dish.
Garnish with the reserved fried onions and chopped cilantro leaves.
Your delicious chicken biryani is now ready to serve!
